During my B. Tech journey, I realized that ego does not always appear as anger or arrogance. Often, it hides in silence, misunderstandings, and emotional distance. Some of my college relationships did not break because of major conflicts, but because ego quietly replaced communication.
In my early years, I was emotionally sensitive and took small remarks seriously. At the same time, some classmates chose silence over conversation. Both sides waited, assumptions grew, and distance slowly developed. Hostel life further amplified this—small misunderstandings, lack of space, and repeated interactions often turned into long-term silence, especially for emotionally sensitive students.
Through reflection, I understood that self-respect and ego are not the same. Self-respect encourages clarity and communication, while ego blocks understanding. I also recognized my responsibility and learned that reacting emotionally only increases distance.
With lateral entry classmates, I consciously practiced polite communication, emotional control, and healthy boundaries. By keeping ego aside and focusing on respect rather than expectations, misunderstandings did not arise. This taught me that relationships survive not because people are perfect, but because they are emotionally mature.
Some regular classmates may still view me negatively or hold on to past misunderstandings. I have learned to accept this. I no longer try to prove myself or win arguments. I choose peace over pride. If someone approaches me, I respond politely; if not, I move forward calmly. Letting go of ego has given me freedom.
My parents’ sacrifices keep me grounded and responsible. Remembering their love reminds me that carrying ego only creates stress for me and pain for those who care about me. I am grateful to God for life, health, my parents, and my teachers.
I have learned that silence during anger is strength, listening is powerful, and patience heals more than reaction. I cannot control others’ perceptions, but I can control my behavior, my peace, and my growth.
As I continue my journey, I choose clarity over assumptions, peace over conflict, and growth over ego. These lessons will guide me not only in college, but throughout my life.
